It is with great pleasure that we invite you to attend
the Alexandria Youth Employment Summit in September 2002!

It is now time for us to come together and share the energy and excitement that has been building up over the past four years.

We are grateful to the Arab Republic of Egypt for hosting the Summit and for all their support. We would also like to acknowledge our partnership with the Library of Alexandria and thank them for welcoming us in their new state-of-the-art facility.


Historically, the world's greatest minds, thinkers, planners, and leaders used the Ancient Library of Alexandria as their meeting place. It was here that some of the world's most influential and significant ideas were created, molded, and brought to fruition. The great works of people such as Ptolemy and Archimedes transformed their civilization thousands of years ago. Today, at the same site, we hope to transform our civilization by disseminating our ideas on a global platform.
Summit delegates will renew the tradition of using the Library of Alexandria as a launch pad for innovative action and defining a new global agenda. The Alexandria Summit will be a time when today's leaders, both young and old, will tackle head-on the challenge of youth unemployment.

Participants at the Alexandria Summit will mark an important time in history when the plight of unemployed youth will be given attention on the world stage. The Alexandria Summit will be a time of learning where the focus will be on good practices and policies in youth employment, increasing the effectiveness of current programs, and identifying innovative approaches to generating sustainable livelihoods for youth.

Our goal is to launch a Decade Campaign of Action to create productive and sustainable livelihoods for an additional 500 million young adults, especially youth facing poverty, by the year 2012.
